Night Photography for Weddings

I thought I would write about one of my first loves of photography…..Photographing in the darkness! As we all know we need light in order to see and to take a photograph, however today’s cameras are amazing at taking pictures in the dark as long as you know how. I started taking low light or night time photographs before I shot weddings, now I incorporate both skills sets to capture creative images even when the sun goes down.

This image was taken at a destination wedding in the Italian Dolimites 2500 meters above sea level with the temperature around -15C. For this shot I set the camera up on a tripod and get the correct exposure for the stars and mountains before I brought the couple outside in the cold temperature. I then lit the couple with a LED light on minimum power and flashed it across them for approximately half a second.
